I’ll join the discussion raging about one Emily Oster, PhD in Economics from Harvard and professor of something or other at Ivy League Brown University. This disconnected elitist (That’s redundant, isn’t it?) has written a missive with the deceptive subtitle, “We need to forgive one another for what we did and said when we were in the dark about COVID.” Who’s “We”? Speak for yourself, Ms. Fancypants.
And guess what? She is. She speaks for herself and on behalf of the abusive wretches within the milieu of liberal “elites” in which she circulates. This cohort with rare exception (Does anyone know of an exception? Please let me know.) cooperated and collaborated with this crime from the very beginning. They cooperated and engaged in vicious denigration of any who suggested a different course of action. They attacked anyone who pointed out the unmitigated disaster the geniuses in corner offices were about to impose on this country — and the world. They mocked the very notion of freedom and cracked themselves up by calling it “freedumb.”
Most of those writing on this topic, at least initially, seemed to take Ms. Oster’s plea for forgiveness as one directed to us. Here, here, and here. She wants us to forgive her. NO. I suggest that that is exactly wrong.
As one who lived in the belly of the beast for nearly three decades, I can tell you from direct experience that the northeast "liberal" -- especially the Ivy League edu-macated ones -- are with rare exception utterly insufferable -- and opposed to freedom at their core. They call it something else, of course. So, be sure that “Little Emily” ain’t asking for forgiveness from us. She doesn’t give a rat’s ass about us. She wants forgiveness for herself from her “club” — that special club she’s in of liberal snobs, academic elites, and totalitarian control freaks disguised as “experts.”
Strap on a Petri Dish, Everyone
According to Ms. Oster, she dutifully got underway making snot pouches in April when her elected dimwit in Providence, Gina Raimondo, "ordered" people to interfere with their natural respiration and collect dirt and bacteria instead via a strapped-on petri dish — this as a means of fending off a respiratory infection. Now, this is a special kind of stupid, but we expect that from our elected dimwits. But from a highly edu-macated PhD from Harvard? “We” were in the dark she says. No, “we” weren’t, Emily dear.
As a former resident of the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, formerly known as the “cradle of liberty”, our former idiot-in-chief, Charlie Baker, waited until May to issue his snot pouch "order." We promptly ignored it, of course, because we were not in the dark nor do we take orders from a now-proven nitwit to undergo medical interventions — especially useless and dangerous ones. Practicing medicine without a license much, Charlie?
So, back to my point and my take on this twit from Brown. She wants her circle of friends and associates and others who disagreed and got nasty to each other along the way to all come back together again. Let bygones be bygones -- like it all never happened. Know why? Because for the most part, none of the real horrors of this crime happened to her or the elites in their freaking ivory towers. She references the names she was called by some in her elite cohort for daring to suggest schools should reopen. She wants them to know that she forgives 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚 cuz she no wanna have that happen again...No, no. Her feelings got hurt. But that’s OK. “I’ll forgive you if you forgive me, m’kay?”
She makes no mention whatsoever about the harms to basic human rights, the harms to low income and poor people, or to the young people who committed suicide due to isolation and separation from friends. Can you say Spencer Smith, Emmie? Never heard of him? Oh, well. He used to live in Maine. He used to be his little sister’s big brother. Until he killed himself. For Spencer, the despair and loneliness of a life separated from his friends, “locked in his house,” and away from activities he loved affected him so deeply, he saw no way out except to end his life. Heartbroken, lost Spencer “succeeded” as one of thousands his age who attempted suicide. That’s on you, Emmie, and your complicit-by-silence Ivy League colleagues. ALL of them.
“Little Emily” makes no mention of the dead or injured as a result of forced injection. For example, Nigerian immigrant and medical assistant, Jummai Nache, who had her legs and one hand amputated following her forced — did I mention Jummai was forced by the “good” people at the University of Minnesota Hospital system — injection?
Emily goes on to call out the cowardice and idiocy she displayed and taught her children. Oops…Yeah…and she now wants to get out in front of it. After all, with a PhD in who-the-hell-cares from Hah-vahd, how could she possibly put 2 + 2 together?? Well...seems like she couldn't back then, but now that even she’s seeing the light, as it were?
As the light continues to dawn on Marblehead as the saying goes in Boston, she and so many just like her are going to be shown for the idiots they actually are and for the traitors to basic human rights and decency that they actually are. She seeks nothing more than cover for this.
Until she develops enough 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓 to come out and ask for a 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒐𝒏, which by definition requires the admission of the crime/sin and then talks about what she is going to do to make amends, her missive constitutes nothing more than self-serving tripe. It beggars belief that a PhD actually wrote it.
Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word
Another giveaway from this dimwit, revealing that this is about her and her ilk, is the complete absence of the word, “Sorry.” She never says it. So, how could she be asking us to forgive her? If that were the case, she’d have to say something like…well…like, “I’m sorry. ” Then she’d have to tell us what she’s sorry for. Then she’d have to spell what she did that enabled this greatest of crimes and caused such grievous harm to so many. Then she’d have to say what she is going to do to make amends. That would go something like this:
“Yes, I now realize how moronic I was; can’t even believe it myself since I thought I was so smart, Harvard PhD and all, but yeah. I behaved like an idiot from the git go. Because I know that I and people like me supported this crime and caused immeasurable harm to so many while advocating the complete obliteration of basic human rights and simple decency, I have decided that I’m going to start a foundation to help restore those who’ve suffered. As a gesture of goodwill, I’m going to donate my salary. You know — the one I never lost because I’m a beautiful person who could “work from home” while millions lost everything? Yeah, I’m going to donate my salary for the same length of time that I celebrated the world being shut down and people being harassed to undergo medical interventions or lose their jobs.”
See? That’s asking for forgiveness — from the victim/s of your sin/crime/transgression. Think this one is capable of that? That’s asking for forgiveness and backing it up. It’s a two-part process. You say the words. Then you demonstrate you mean them by what you do to make amends. Does the writer of this rubbish exhibit any of this? Does she even hint at it? Of course not. She simply lacks the character for it and the self-awareness. Think that’s harsh? Well, take a look at some of her tweets and other “social media” invective and tell me I’m being harsh.
Forgiveness. Pardon. Amnesty.
Another dead giveaway (the article is full of them) for what this crappy essay is about is the fact that this unrepentant dweeb uses the word “amnesty.” Firstly, being a PIA when it comes to words’ exact meanings, this word is almost exclusively used in a legal sense and for large groups of people who’ve transgressed against the state. It represents an outcome of complete eradication — erasure — of the events/conduct/crime. Thus one is granted “amnesty.”
Compare this to a pardon. One may be pardoned, which can reduce or end just punishment while the fact and history of the crime remain. Does “Little Emily” ask for this? Oh, no. She wants it all to go away like it never happened so she and her friends can go back to the way they were. As if her and her special friends’ idiocy, indecency, cowardice, ill wishes, and invective never even happened??
Surely, a Harvard PhD knows the difference between forgiveness, pardon, and amnesty, yes? Of course she does; I gotta assume that. So then I must also assume that she asks for amnesty as only an elite, entitled, disconnected, Ivy League snob would.
I’ll end this because I could go on name-calling ‘til the cows come home. Before I go, here’s an excellent piece on this from The Midwestern Doctor here on Substack. He, too, sees the deceptive nature of this plea and does a superb job dissecting it. He has far more patience than I and provides an almost line-by-line analysis of "Little Emily’s” deception, outright falsehoods, projection, etc.
The Midwestern Doctor comes at this at the micro level; I come at it from a more macro one: Do not kid yourself. This plea is all about “Little Emily” and her ilk. As George Carlin told us years ago, people like this one don’t care about you. They don’t care about you or anyone but themselves. They don’t give a f__k about you. 𝑨𝒕 𝒂𝒍𝒍. And this self-indulgent nitwit just proved that — again.
Haha!! I thought about you when I read C&C this morning and wondered how long it would be until you conjured up a lovely word slap of Little Miss I Fucked Up My Kids For This. Well done. You do not disappoint.
Perfect explanation. I was born and raised in Massachusetts. Escaped quite some time ago, now living in Florida. I recognized the covid fraud very early. Never wore a mask. Never any shots. Left Hawaii due to the communist covid response there. Glad I found your SubStack; it may have been via Bailiwick News - thanks for the great posts. It still amazes me today that SO many people are absolutely clueless as to what is going on. Reminds me of Bonhoeffer's famous essay on stupidity: https://southsidemessenger.com/bonhoeffer-on-stupidity-entire-quote/
Thanks!
