Wow. What a great story. Read it out loud to my wife and she loved it too. So very glad your husband is doing well. Looking forward to reading your back story. I herniated L4-L5 way back in the day. I was told I needed surgery to correct it - one "doctor" told me my left foot would never work properly. Of course, they were all wrong. I worked on core strength using Pilates and used Egoscue for structural balance. Read Dr. Stuart McGill's books on back health and the injury mechanisms involved. Most doctors I have met are clueless about the subject and they recommend things that can hurt a person or aggravate the condition. I can't wait to read part three!! Thanks SheThinksLiberty! have a great day.
SheThinksLiberty- I am really enjoying this series! I hope you do more of these kinds of posts! By the way, I had a really good experience with the Egoscue Method for back pain and highly recommend it.
If you'll notice, SteveinFlorida mentioned Egoscue, too. So "funny" in that it seems relatively few know of the method. It saved my life. Well, not really...You know what I mean. Wait for Part Three...I talk about another self-inflicted injury and how I found Egoscue...:)
SheThinksLiberty- It's true that most people have never heard of Egoscue. Even my doctors and physical therapists at the time had not heard of it. Although I did see one of my physical therapist both before and after Egoscue training (because I needed back surgery) and she remarked about how much better my alignment was and asked what I had been doing. The only downside is the cost factor- it can be pricey and there are not enough clinics around. I know they do zoom appointments but I really prefer in person, because I feel you get more out of it that way! I'm really looking forward to part three!
Yes, cost is a factor, definitely. When I decided to go, the cost did make me cringe somewhat, so I kind of closed my eyes and spent the $$$. It's unfortunate. It makes it prohibitive for a lot of people, especially in person, which I much prefer, too.
I'm glad I did it, though. It made a huge difference both physically and psychologically for me. I tend to ask questions, so while going through the in-center sessions, I would ask my therapist questions -- the "whys and wherefores" -- so I could better understand. This helped on the psychological level while the sessions worked on the physical.
So very cool. I was fortunate to retire at 50 and we moved to Kauai, Hawaii. I was introduced to Egoscue there by a guy named Dustin at Pain Free Kauai. Dustin trained local surfers, including Bethany Hamilton - he taught me a lot. For me, it's always the hips - Dustin had me straightened out in 8 weeks. I have used Egoscue since then. Recently, I had a shoulder injury, to the point where I could not pick my arm up above my shoulder. I went to the Egoscue clinic in West Palm Beach - the problem? Hips. 8 weeks later, shoulder was good to go. I'm looking forward to part three!!! Have a great day.
SteveInFlorida- You are so fortunate to have an Egoscue clinic near you in 2 different states! I really wish there were more of them around. I actually went to the one in Tampa, Florida, which is affiliated with the West palm Beach location somehow. I worked with the clinic owner and she was amazing! Much more valuable than traditional Physical therapy. My issue was back and S.I. joint - It really helped my S.I. joint and also to re-align my entire body. I did eventually end up having to have a back surgery because I had a fractured spine and it became unstable but that was a different issue.
Hi Genevieve. Yes, I am very fortunate. I have had surgery too; a shoulder rotator cuff a long time ago and a meniscus tear on a knee. I went to excellent doctors that made me 100%. I hope you are doing well. Peace.
A wonderful story, and perhaps a reflection of a silver lining in the entire COVID disaster storm.
The silver lining I potentially see is the world moving away from the pharmaceutical driven S.A.D. diet. (Standard American Diet) Yes, before there was SADS, there was SAD. Perhaps an even brighter silver lining will be a spiritual turning. "Pain is a prod to remembrance"
Just to share here is a known for thousands of years, catch all healing method...
Thank you! The third post may implicitly shed light on my and my husband's response to the "COV!D" "response." We were having none of it!
Years ago, a trainer I had told me that "pain is a messenger. Don't shut it down." What she meant was don't just take pain relievers and especially do not take them before working out just so you can work out. I've always remembered that.
Thank you for the link on fasting. Hearing more and more about the benefits of that, too.
BTW, thanks for the link to iherb.com. I decided to click on -- what the heck -- and the IP-6 powder we use is $6 off per container. They just happen to be having a special on it today. Going to get a couple of jugs. :)

Wow. Amazing story. Poor Bill, RIP. :(
Yes...Of all the people in the world for that to happen to...
John Lennon, one of my fave peeps, once said, "Death is getting out of one car and into another."
xo for Bill. He's probably VERY happy he's not HERE right now! ;) But who am I to say that!!
I have SO many emails today... planning to get to Part III soon... xo
Great way to take on an illness and prevail
