I really enjoyed this post! I have lived in Florida for over 40 years (originally from NY) so I consider it "home" I am very grateful to be here during these crazy times. It's not perfect by any means, but probably a lot better than most states in terms of "freedom". In Sarasota, where I live, we unfortunately had a mask mandate for quite awhile, but because I am feisty I decided not to abide by it. Most places were pretty cool about it- like Publix- they had the signs but never said anything about my bare face. I did however get some dirty looks from customers, which I ignored but stared back at them. I had one incident at a Sephora store of all places, in the mall, where the young woman refused to let me enter and told me how I could order online yada yada. I simply walked away and never went back. I have heard that some parts of Florida were worse than others, like West Palm Beach area- where even Publix harassed their customers. I am so glad I don't live there! During the period of time that they had mask mandates on airplanes, we simply did not fly. What I find most frustrating is that the medical facilities still insist on masks - all doctors offices, labs, hospitals, etc. I am not sure if this is in all parts of Florida but it still goes on here. I wonder if this is going to be a permanent thing?

Thank you, Genevieve, for reading and for your comment. We must be kindred spirits because as you know, I've never worn a snot pouch as my very snarky self calls them. Coincidentally, I had the exact experience at Sephora at the Cordova Mall. (I'd forgotten until you reminded me.) I went in...a couple of their "masked wonders" approached, said I needed one, told them I couldn't wear one safely. I "needed" one thing -- can you just grab it for me? Yes, but you'll have to pay for it with one of those mobile things? I said I wanted to pay cash. They wouldn't take my cash! I walked out and have never gone back -- either in person or online. I've heard the same thing about other parts of Florida.

Yes, I think the idiots in "medicine" are still at it. It will remain as long as people think they must comply. They have so disgraced themselves I wonder if they'll ever be able to recover -- at least in my lifetime. That's why we both also vow to continue to stay as far away from the "white coats" as we possibly can. We have vowed that we would rather die at home than in a "hospital".

I would love to be able to opt out of the "healthcare" system. I have heard others say the same. I am so disappointed in doctors and no longer trust them. I do everything in my power to stay healthy, but I am over 60 and wonder how practical this would be in the long run. At some point most of us will probably require some sort of medical intervention. I agree about the hospitals- I think I read that nobody died of Covid at home-that should make everyone think!

Genevieve, that issue has troubled me as well, as my husband and I are older.

Considering that many of the medical interventions out there have come into usage under the now questionable oversight of the FDA, how can we know which ones are even 'safe and effective'?

Obviously for some things we don't have much choice -- strokes, cardiac arrest, major injury, etc.

It's quite the dilemma, really. Alternative medicines are starting to look more and more attractive to so many of us.

Excellent point, Perplexity. How do we trust at all that the FDA-approved junk that doctors might give to us as "treatment" is "safe and effective"? At this point, I would argue we cannot.

I read a comment within the last day or so about this. The person said they had become so disgusted by this whole debacle that she and her husband would do everything in their power to stay well and avoid going to the hospital "just this side of massive trauma."

My husband and I have had that same conversation, or one very similar.

For a time when the world has so many resources invested in medicine, we seem to be experiencing diminishing returns in terms of quality.

Love this...We have a similar story. November 2020. So weird. I agree about the lovely cashiers and all those little Nazi's who stepped forward to enforce this crap. We are coming your way in October!

In my part of the woods, rural KY, my wife and I never wore a muzzle. During the 14-16 months, while everyone else did, I shook hands with the 5-6 people we encountered in stores, telling them it was nice to see some sanity in a world gone insane. Will never forget a father with two daughters, around 10 and 12, who told me that his wife left him, because she was a "believer."

We simply walked by the people in the doorways of stores, who told us, "You have to wear a mask!" and we cheerfully responded, "We know!" and kept walking.

When someone asked me why I was not wearing a muzzle, I said I couldn't. When asked if I had a doctor's paper about it, I told them I didn't need a "doctor" to tell me what I could or couldn't do (well, I was allergic to the humiliation and the suffocation, but nobody needed to know).

The torture device was part of the obedience training and testing for the future.

Whenever "authorities" act as if they owned you, it's time to ignore them. Compliance training has a long history in the US:

What a fun and well-written post! Thank you. I had similar encounters as a non-complier in New England - still here! - and informed many that mandates were not laws and in fact, even if they were, I would not have adhered given their clear egregiousness. Um, my freedom is source-given, thank you.

PS - No wonder I can't find my peeps in New England - they all moved to Florida!
