Tolkien has come to mind often these last 2 years and I haven't read LOTR since high school (I'm 71). I shall have to sit down and immerse myself in him again.
I just got done with that first movie and am halfway into the second. I have not watched them since they first came out. Now? Well, I see them through a whole new set of eyes. I am like "OMG, the masses are nihilist orcs! and...and....arrrgh!!"
